Tuner quality is good, but for me the 1.0 tuners on the 4k (now Flex) tuner is the same as my quattro (4 1.0 tuners). You can get very specific information as to what you might expect from there. There should also be a thread with whatever market you are in if your broadcasters are doing 3.0. But if you use devices that do support the playback (like most set-top boxes) it will do so via the HDHR software. The best place to better understand the current state and issues with ATSC 3.0, ac-4 and devices is on the Silicon Dust forums. To your 'record it and it will play" question: No, VLC, Plex and any other tech that relies on FFMPEG will not play AC-4 until FFMPEG developers are able to add support and there is no eta for that. The only reasons to want 3.0 now is that you enjoy playing with tech that is essentially beta and/or you are in a spot where you are having reception issues caused by swaying trees or multipath that 3.0's OFDM tech may help with. It won't do either for the foreseeable future (though the device is ready if any broadcaster does make the move eventually). Do not get if you have enough 1.0 tuners and are thinking 3.0 will give you 4k broadcasts and/or notably improved picture. Get the tuner if you want 4 atsc 1.0 tuners (and know you are close enough that can receive OTA wherever you are at). The new 'flex' tuner is the replacement for the quattro (and for the first "4k" version) with the two differences being it has 2 atsc 3.0 tuners and a usb port for adding local storage if you want to subscribe to HDHR's guide/dvr service. You are doing what the moron who left the 1 star didn't do any amount of research before buying.
